NCDOT Low-Impact Bridge Replacements – Statewide – Federal Funding
Over the last ten years, KCA has planned and designed over 30 Division bridge projects.
These projects consist of pre-construction activities for planning, natural and human environment, roadway, hydraulics, structures, transportation management, erosion control, and permitting. KCA staff members are certified in and perform field delineations of streams and wetlands in accordance with the NC Stream and Wetland Assessment Methodology (NC SAM/WAM). KCA staff were responsible for the Natural Resources Technical Report and permitting for each of the project sites. Some of these bridge replacements included trout resources and trout buffer rules. KCA coordinated with jurisdictional resource agencies to use the Design Standards for Sensitive Watersheds (DSSW) (15A NCAC 04B.0124) in areas of trout moratoria.
In addition to natural environment screening, KCA has served as a multi-disciplinary prime consultant, and has provided National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), roadway, hydraulics, erosion control, structures, temporary traffic control, pavement marking, utility coordination, traffic, permitting and resource agency coordination, including Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), United States Coast Guard (USCG) and Coastal Area Management Act (CAMA), similar to South Carolina’s Coastal Zone Management Program.
