Owner:
FDOT District Two
Location:
Columbia County, FL
In September 2017, these twin prestressed girder bridges were impacted by a Lowboy carrying an excavator, causing significant damage to the bridge superstructure days prior to Hurricane Irma impacting the state of Florida. KCA performed an emergency inspection and load rating analysis of the deteriorated girders to ensure safe travel over the structure during a large-scale evacuation from the state. Plans for emergency repairs including prestressed strand splicing and carbon fiber strengthening were developed and implemented.
