A Legacy of Rapid Emergency Response

KCA provides rapid, reliable, and effective emergency response services backed by nearly five decades of experience supporting DOTs and agencies across the Southeast. Since our early post-hurricane work following Hurricane Andrew in 1992, we have become a trusted partner for post-storm evaluations, accelerated repairs, and fast-track mobilization.

Our emergency response capabilities were reinforced during the active 2004–2005 hurricane seasons, when KCA teams worked around the clock to support statewide recovery. During this period, we developed inspection techniques and reporting tools still used today and delivered large-scale assessments following storms such as Hurricanes Frances, Jeanne, Katrina, and Wilma.

Over the years, KCA has supported multiple FDOT districts, NCDOT divisions, and county partners with rapid inspections, damage assessments, scour evaluations, and expedited repair designs. More recent storm seasons have seen KCA deploy large, multi-district teams to support responses to Hurricanes Irma (2017), Michael (2018), Sally and Zeta (2020), and others.

Proven Performance in Recent Storm Seasons

In 2022, KCA played a major role in Florida’s recovery efforts following Hurricanes Ian and Nicole, rapidly assessing impacted structures, supporting emergency bridge repairs, and helping restore essential access for communities. Our fast, coordinated response continues to be a hallmark of KCA’s commitment to public safety and infrastructure resiliency.

KCA’s recent work on the Sanibel Causeway Emergency Repairs (a nationally recognized effort completed in just 15 days to restore temporary access after Hurricane Ian) demonstrates our ability to manage complex, high-pressure situations with precision and speed. Similarly, our SR A1A Emergency Secant Wall projects for FDOT District Five required accelerated design, coordination with geotechnical specialists, and round-the-clock staffing to protect vulnerable coastal infrastructure and maintain community connectivity.

KCA provided turnkey emergency response to the NC Emergency Management program, responding to an unprecedented natural disaster in the mountains of Western NC. Work field inspection and assessment of more than 600 sites, numerous designs, and included program management, process development, and various other functions to serve the citizens of NC in access and recovery.
