Qualifications

Education:

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Civil Engineering with an emphasis in Water Resources and Hydraulics being preferred.

Skills:

  • Able to analyze and interpret data.
  • Able to meet time sensitive deadlines.
  • Able to carry out multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office software.
  • Effective verbal communication skills.
  • Effective organizational skills to maintain deliverables, analytical results, and field notes in project files.
  • Effective writing skills to assist with report writing, proposal preparation, and engineering/construction cost estimates.
  • Able to work effectively in group settings or as an individual.
  • Ability to exercise independent judgement and discretion.

Responsibilities

  • Work under the direction and guidance of a Senior Engineer on drainage and stormwater design for highway and roadway projects.
  • Collaborate with other KCA associates on hydrology and hydraulics tasks.
  • Provide technical support for drainage engineering projects, including hydrologic and hydraulic analysis.
  • Gain hands‑on experience in sizing culverts and storm drain systems, designing retention and detention ponds, performing bridge hydraulics evaluations, and using hydrologic/hydraulic modeling tools.
  • Assist with the preparation of technical studies, engineering reports, and construction plan components.
  • Support the design and modeling of storm sewer systems, culverts, and stormwater management facilities while applying DOT criteria, FEMA floodplain considerations, and local agency regulations.
  • Contribute to plan production activities, including developing plan/profile sheets, reviewing field data, and preparing calculations and technical documentation.
  • Build a strong understanding of the relationship between water management and transportation infrastructure.
