About Us

I originally joined KCA as an Inspector Aide in the Bridge Inspection Department after working alongside Mike Betz (CBI) inspecting Turnpike bridges in the Miami area. Over the years, my career has continued to grow and evolved—after about a year in Bridge Inspection, I transferred to the CEI Department as a Roadway Inspector and steadily progressed through the ranks, ultimately passing the PE exam and becoming a Senior Project Engineer and Regional Manager. Throughout my time at KCA, I’ve had the opportunity to learn from outstanding professionals, especially Mr. Campo, who encouraged me early on to pursue my PE and consistently reminded me of his vision for me as a leader in CEI. Additionally, Steve McGucken and Dewey Martin have provided our team with the support needed to pursue projects and successfully manage demanding clients.

I’ve been a staff member at KCA since 1996. For nearly 30 years working with my friends, beginning as a Sr. Inspector and evolving into a Project Administrator, I provided start-to-finish CEI services for 18 construction projects with one lasting over 8 years and involvement in numerous others.

Over the years I’ve always appreciated working with Tim Heath. Our teams have always been supported by the leadership of the firm, from way back in the day experiencing regular visits from Jack Campo, Joe LaRussa, Steve McGucken, Colleen Carter, and others to today with Paul Foley, Dewey Martin, Jolie Marjama, and Mike Campo. Backstage and in the background, you can always rely on Ron Gott and his accounting team members and the marketing staff.

I started with KCA in 2011 in our Tampa/Brandon Bridge Inspection group. In 2011, the economic conditions weren’t the best for breaking into the engineering industry. I was lucky enough to have an extended family member working for KCA, who introduced me and from that I was hired as a bridge inspection technician. Over the past 15 years I have advanced from Technician, to Certified Bridge Inspector, Professional Engineer, and now Senior Structures Engineer – Team Leader.

KCA has always recognized my efforts and rewarded my hard work. I have been given the opportunity to grow personally through the relationships I have established and professionally through continued learning and position advancement. Corporate and regional management care about me as an individual, understanding that I am a husband and father outside of the office. I have been afforded the opportunity to provide for my family and give them opportunities that I didn’t have as a child.

A new opportunity in a new place for the short-term brought me to KCA, but the people are what led me to stay long-term. When I started as an intern in Raleigh, I think we were right at 10 people or a little less. Now the Raleigh “family” has grown to about 30 folks, not including those who branched off to start the Charlotte design office in 2022.

From my first day to now, KCA has invested in my personal and professional development in countless ways…from my coworkers supporting me while studying for and obtaining my PE, to my supervisors allowing me the opportunity to attend conferences such as NCLUG (even as an intern!), ASHE, ACEC and more, and nominating me to participate in the ACEC NC Future Leaders 2024-25 Program. But to be more specific, I am truly indebted to the mentorship of Sam Cullum and Debbie Barbour. They took a chance on me as an intern, and have continued to invest in me over the years.
